Steve Urkel is the brainy, awkward, squeaky-voiced nerd next door. He is a regular visitor to the Winslow house, and would do just about anything to impress Laura, the girl of his dreams.
Jaleel White spent nine years as the irksome yet endearing Steve Urkel on "Family Matthers," a role intended to be a guest spot that soon became a trademark of the show. Jaleel began acting in commercials at age three, and his first television role was on "The Jeffersons" in 1985. Prior to joining the cast of "Family Matters" in 1989, Jaleel appeared in a number of films and in 1991 was featured with other stars in Magic Johnson's AIDS Awareness video. In 1992 he wrote, directed and starred in the TV special, "Urkel's Other Side: The Jaleel White Special," and in 2009 he co-starred in "Grown Ups" as Jaleel Calvin Frazier, in a role originally written as a Caucasian character. Also in 1999, Jaleel's voice was featured in "Sonic Underground" the animated "Sonic the Hedgehog" series. In 2006, he appeared in the feature film "Dreamgirls" as a talent booker. White currently lives in California and enjoys basketball in his downtime.
