Randy Taylor is Tim and Jill's smart, sarcastic middle child. He's in advanced classes at school, but his quick wit frequently gets him in trouble.
JONATHAN TAYLOR THOMAS: Jonathan Taylor Weiss was born on September 8, 1981 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. When Jonathan was four years old, his family (his mother Claudine, father Stephen and his older brother Joel) moved from Bethlehem to Sacramento, California. At the age of seven, Jonathan began working as a model for print advertisements in Sacramento, and over the next few years, he appeared in various TV commercials. JTT won his first primetime part of Greg Brady's son Kevin in the TV special "The Bradys" and later that same year he landed his biggest role yet, as Randy Taylor on "Home Improvement." Jonathan's audition went well, but what really gave him an edge over the other boys was that the casting directors thought that he looked a lot like his TV dad-to-be, Tim Allen. A few years later, Thomas began work in feature films as the voice of young Simba in Disney's "The Lion King" and as Ben Archer in Man of the House with Chevy Chase. Jonathan has also starred in Tom and Huck and The Adventures of Pinocchio. JTT later went on to study at Harvard and was the first actor to ever receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Kids' Choice Awards for his work as Randy Taylor on "Home Improvement." Most recently Jonathan has appeared on shows including "Ally McBeal" and "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter." JTT's stage name is derived from his real first and middle names and his brother's middle name (Thomas).
